Introduce Yourself to Saraswati supercluster discovered by Indian Scientists
Saraswati, a supercluster discovered by Indian Scientists has given a proud moment for the entire nation. The universe consists of only 4 to 5 super clusters such like Saraswati. Indian Scientists have successfully discovered a super cluster of galaxies some 4 billion light years away from earth. This new discovery was announced by Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics last Thursday. Super cluster is a group of clusters of galaxies, largest structures of stars or other heavenly bodies in Universe.
Galaxies are made of billions of stars and planets, and a cluster contains hundreds of galaxies. Superclusters are relatively recent finds, identified for the first time only in the 1980s.
This discovery by Indian Scientists is itself a great discovery as galaxies are made of billion of stars and planets and then clusters are created with hundreds of such galaxies coming together.
Finding this huge supercluster is commendable.A team of Indian Astronomies identified a large supercluster as big as 20 million billion suns recently.
The Indian stars to discover Saraswati is Shishir Sankhyayan a PhD student at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research; Pratik Dabhade IUCAA research fellow; Joe Jacob of Newman College, Kerala; and Prakash Sarkar of National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur.
The Saraswati Supercluster is an extremely massive galaxies supercluster discovered in the Stripe 82 region of SDSS that falls in the direction of the Pisces constellation. Named after both, a Hindu goddess and an ancient river, The supercluster is a major concentration of galaxies and galaxy clusters, forming a galaxy wall like structure, and spanning at least 600 million light years across that includes at least 43 massive galaxy clusters
The Indian Scientists spotted a giant wall like supercluster which came across during the survey of distant galaxies under Sloan Digital Sky Survey programme.
A Pune based Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics discovered a 10 billion-year-old super giant cluster. Previously few comparatively large superclusters have been discovered such as Sloan Wall and Laniakea Supercluster.
Saraswati is discovered towards the direction of Pisces constellation. It is for the first time for India to claim the discovery of such supercluster. Since Saraswati is far away from earth, light from it has taken that much more time to reach earth. Saraswati will help scientist to know how the Universe must have been many years ago.
Saraswati is one of the largest and massive known supercluster, comparable to the most massive concentration in the universe. The supercluster is surrounded by a network of galaxy filaments, clusters and large diameter voids. This supercluster was observed as it was when the Universe was 10 billion years old. The spherical model suggests that the central region of the Saraswati supercluster may be collapsing.
The Saraswati supercluster and its environs reveal that some extreme large-scale, prominent matter density enhancements had formed in the past when dark energy had just started to dominate structure formation. This galactic concentration sheds light on the role of dark energy and cosmological initial conditions in supercluster formation. This prodigious discovery has again proved that Indian Scientists are one of the most successful ones. They have the capability to rule in every prestigious scientific firm of the world.
