The narrative of “Till the Last Breath” delves into the lives of two contrasting individuals and their intertwined fates. Within the confines of a shared hospital room, two distinct personalities find themselves in unique circumstances.

Dushyant Roy, a former engineering student from Delhi Technical University, awakens in a hospital bed after three days of admission, only to discover an absence of companionship. Alienated from his former friends and devoid of family support, Dushyant’s life revolves around a haze of substance abuse, including smoking weed and consuming alcohol. His perspective on life lacks appreciation, and he remains stagnant in his fifth year of engineering studies.

Lying in the adjacent bed is Pihu Malhotra, a remarkable 19-year-old medical student hailing from Maulana Azad Medical College. Recently diagnosed with ALS, a debilitating disease progressively paralyzing her limbs, Pihu finds herself surrounded by the emotional turmoil of her weeping parents. Her spirit remains resolute despite the encroaching paralysis, embodying an unwavering determination even in the face of impending mortality.

Against the backdrop of their circumstances, two exceptional doctors, Dr Armaan Kashyap and Dr Zara Mirza, surpass the boundaries of conventional medical care to attend to these two patients. Their dedication to their profession puts their medical licenses at risk as they go above and beyond to provide the best treatment.

As the story unfolds, Dr Zara and Dushyant discover a shared resentment toward their parents and haunting past experiences, fostering a bond between them. Meanwhile, Dr Armaan, a handsome and extraordinarily gifted medical professional, finds himself captivated by the indomitable spirit of Pihu, despite her deteriorating health.

While Dushyant grapples with self-frustration and the self-destructive path his life has taken, he presents himself as a rude and difficult patient and roommate. In stark contrast, Pihu exudes a constant smile, making tireless efforts to uplift not only her own spirits but also those of everyone around her. Driven by his unwavering love for Pihu, Dr Armaan is determined to save her at any cost, while Dr Zara is equally committed to rescuing Dushyant from his self-inflicted turmoil.

The intricately woven plot of “Till the Last Breath” explores themes of redemption, resilience, and the power of human connections, portraying the transformative journeys of its characters as they navigate through life’s challenges, finding hope and love amidst adversity.

Theme

The core theme of “Till the Last Breath” revolves around the profound realization that life encompasses more than being consumed by work, haunted by past traumas, or trapped in the clutches of addiction. It emphasizes the vital role of communication in the process of healing, allowing individuals to move forward and embrace new chapters in their lives.

The narrative highlights the significance of acknowledging one’s past, as it holds valuable lessons and experiences. However, dwelling in the past for an extended period offers no solace but rather perpetuates pain, hindering personal growth and ultimately leading to self-destruction. In the words of Game of Thrones, a beloved quote that resonates with this concept, “Stay too long where you don’t belong and you may never come back,” capturing the idea that lingering in the past can lead to a loss of oneself.

The book encourages readers to break free from the chains of their past and the destructive patterns that hold them back. It stresses the importance of communication as a means of opening up, expressing emotions, and sharing burdens with others. Through genuine and meaningful connections, individuals can find solace, support, and the strength to overcome their inner struggles.

By embracing the power of communication, the characters in the story discover the ability to heal and grow. They learn to let go of their burdens, find redemption, and forge a new path towards a brighter future. The narrative serves as a reminder that life is a journey, and by facing our past, embracing communication, and opening ourselves to new possibilities, we can find the resilience to move forward and truly live.

Conclusion

Durjoy Dutta reminds us how important it is to heal ourselves while we are living because death can arrive at any point in a person’s life and it does not always come for the wicked and leave the decent behind. Moments are limited per person and you may never know when this moment will end. The book sure will make you appreciate life and will make you think differently about spending it.
