How long has it been that you have watched a show on Doordarshan?
With the advent of technology each day, our world is shrinking equally faster. There were times when an entire neighborhood bonded over watching Ramayan or Mahabharat on DD. Then gradually more people started having their personal T.V sets, and gradually most of us have shifted to our smartphones. Our phones are pretty much our cinema, friend, and personal T.V. With increasing popularity, digital streaming platforms are the new hype.

What would be your reaction if we insist and recommend a show on Doordarshan? Yes, that is true! We are insisting, recommending and requesting you to watch a travelogue on DD. The series is called Rag Rag Mein Ganga. The show is a travelogue which represents the beautiful geographic as well as the spiritual journey about Ganga. The show was launched on Jan 31, 2019, and airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9 p.m.
The show has been produced by DD in collaboration with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). The show was launched by Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore.

Rag Rag Mein Ganga: The Storyline
Comprising of a series of 21 episodes, the show will cover the journey of Ganga from Gomukh glacier, the source of Ganga in Uttarakhand to Ganga Sagar in West Bengal. “The travelogue, not only captures Ganga in its pristine beauty and showcases the rich natural heritage on the banks of Ganga, but also is the mouthpiece of the local people from the grassroots on their feelings, sentiments, and livelihood that are attached with the river,” said the channel.

Unlike the general documentaries on the subject, this one is quite lively. The content of the show is rich but engaging and lively at the same time. The show beautifully captures the pristine Ganga and shows how all Indians and our heritage is connected. Rajeev Khandelwal, who is hosting the show is a very welcome change from the boring hostless series. He shows us places, interacts people and makes us aware of many unheard and untouched aspects. He also meets people who are working on conservation of river or are researching about the other aspects of Ganga.

So guys, give your smartphones a break for an hour (They might also thank us for this!) and to give the series a try. Many times we do not realize the importance of our assets before they are gone. This is a great opportunity to explore how a river changes and travels across the nation, and how it changes the lives of people. Also, how people are trying to make a difference. Additionally, you guys get some family time together, another asset nurtured. You can also watch the episodes on DD’s Youtube channel in case you miss it on weekends.
