If one woman can’t support another woman, then how do you expect from others!!
A woman said, “ Girls who wear short dresses wants male attention, such girls should be raped “. This woman already raped everyone’s mind by saying these words. Yesterday, a bunch of young girls was body shamed by an older woman for wearing short dresses. They were in a restaurant in Gurgaon.

Who is Soma Chakrabarty?
That lady’s name is Soma Chakrabarty, lives in Mumbai. And, she is a school teacher by profession. This woman is accused of body shaming and insulting comments to a bunch of other girls.
Soma Chakrabarty called everyone and asked if they are comfortable wearing these shorts. And later on, said,
. After that, the girls made a video of her in which everyone was confronting her, how a girl who wears a short dress, asking for it. They made a video in the store with the help of some ladies. Soma Chakraborty was clearly shouting and not ready to change her statement. Soma asked everybody “ would you allow your girls to wear short dresses and not react “ and she also said how young girls are promoting short dresses.
Well, we are so proud of the girl(Shivani Gupta’s) who showed a great amount of courage and shared the video on her Instagram handle. Also, it’s great to see how people are using social media to raise our voice. If she wouldn’t have done that, people wouldn’t have known about this.
Reactions to Soma Chakrabarty:
- How shocking this is! A woman thinks girls wear short dresses to attract and gain male attention. How cringy it sounds. We live in the 21st century, not in the 19th century right?. Soma is just a part of a polluted mindset. The whole community is against such a mindset.
- “ Why everyone blames a girl? Do short dresses invites rapist? or, only revealing clothes invite rapist? Do girls invites rapist? Then, why a 2-year-old girl is getting raped? Then why a 75-year-old lady is getting raped? If clothes are the only factor. Then why, who wears Saree, Burkha is also getting raped?
- Why don’t we teach our boys! Why don’t we teach them the difference between rape and sex! We only teach girls that you shouldn’t wear short and revealing clothes. You shouldn’t go out after 10 or something. Why!”
- People need to realize what is wrong and what is right. You can’t blame girls who wear short dresses.
Instagram Deleted the Video from her Handle:
Another shocking news was that Instagram deleted that video. Generally, social media doesn’t support this type of videos. By putting down a video, no one can’t change what’s wrong. The video is already viral.
The Effect of Shivani Gupta’s Video?
Now, Soma is getting rape threats. Well, if you do something wrong, you can’t expect anything good. But, is this the right way to make her understand that whatever she said was wrong? This is how you also teach your close ones? She also has a family. It can create so much chaos in her life. Think about her children.
It is very important to deal with such people and criticism properly otherwise it can lead to bad mental health. Here is how we can deal with criticism
This is a request by a community is something we all should need to see right away! Can SomeOne Hear Us? We Are Dying
Is this the right way?
The group of girls was also quoted saying “ we wear because we have the body to flaunt and you don’t “. They also body shamed her. They did it in her way and also took it to social media. We know, everyone is angry at the statement that older woman said. But, do we have the right to make anybody’s life hell? Everyone knows that here in India how things heats up so easily and gets worse. She can go into depression. And, can also take any wrong step. What if her children kill themselves? Her face was clearly visible in the video. It’s going to be so tough for her and her family to step out of the house. If you want to raise some point, just do it. But, not pointing out that person.
The women’s face should not have been revealed. Don’t you think we should wait for her side of the story as well? What happened before the video? Also, it’s the court that decided who is wrong or right?
We aren’t in support of that woman, whatever she did was totally unforgettable. But, sending rape threats can’t change her mind. She will say sorry due to the pressure anyway. At least, make her realize and understand in a proper way. If we do it, the way she did. Then, what’s the difference between her and us?
Soma was wrong with whatever she said completely. And, we feel sorry that these type of people still exist in our community and how they are just polluting it. Blaming girls won’t help in stopping the rapes.
Teach everyone, what is right. And, don’t come up to girls always and start accusing her of her dress. Instead, teach your boys and improve your mentality!
