Dont be too quick to Judge Soma Chakrabarty. Here is why

If one woman can’t support another woman, then how do you expect from others!!

A woman said, “ Girls who wear short dresses wants male attention, such girls should be raped “. This woman already raped everyone’s mind by saying these words. Yesterday, a bunch of young girls was body shamed by an older woman for wearing short dresses. They were in a restaurant in Gurgaon.

Who is Soma Chakrabarty?

Who is Soma Chakraborty
Who is Soma Chakrabarty

That lady’s name is Soma Chakrabarty, lives in Mumbai. And, she is a school teacher by profession. This woman is accused of body shaming and insulting comments to a bunch of other girls.

The Incident:

Soma Chakrabarty called everyone and asked if they are comfortable wearing these shorts. And later on, said,

. After that, the girls made a video of her in which everyone was confronting her, how a girl who wears a short dress, asking for it. They made a video in the store with the help of some ladies. Soma Chakraborty was clearly shouting and not ready to change her statement. Soma asked everybody “ would you allow your girls to wear short dresses and not react and she also said how young girls are promoting short dresses.

Do You know: This Lady Has Been Behind AGNI Missiles. Meet Tessy Thomas-missile woman of India

Well, we are so proud of the girl(Shivani Gupta’s) who showed a great amount of courage and shared the video on her Instagram handle. Also, it’s great to see how people are using social media to raise our voice. If she wouldn’t have done that, people wouldn’t have known about this.

Reactions to Soma Chakrabarty:

Reactions on Soma Chakraborty statement

  1. How shocking this is! A woman thinks girls wear short dresses to attract and gain male attention. How cringy it sounds. We live in the 21st century, not in the 19th century right?. Soma is just a part of a polluted mindset. The whole community is against such a mindset.
  2. “ Why everyone blames a girl? Do short dresses invites rapist? or, only revealing clothes invite rapist? Do girls invites rapist? Then, why a 2-year-old girl is getting raped? Then why a 75-year-old lady is getting raped?  If clothes are the only factor. Then why, who wears Saree, Burkha is also getting raped?
  3. Why don’t we teach our boys! Why don’t we teach them the difference between rape and sex! We only teach girls that you shouldn’t wear short and revealing clothes.  You shouldn’t go out after 10 or something. Why!”
  4. People need to realize what is wrong and what is right. You can’t blame girls who wear short dresses.

Instagram Deleted the Video from her Handle:

Another shocking news was that Instagram deleted that video. Generally, social media doesn’t support this type of videos. By putting down a video, no one can’t change what’s wrong. The video is already viral.

Soma Chakraborty took a poll on facebook

Now, Soma is getting rape threats. Well, if you do something wrong, you can’t expect anything good. But, is this the right way to make her understand that whatever she said was wrong? This is how you also teach your close ones? She also has a family. It can create so much chaos in her life. Think about her children.

It is very important to deal with such people and criticism properly otherwise it can lead to bad mental health. Here is how we can deal with criticism

This is a request by a community is something we all should need to see right away! Can SomeOne Hear Us? We Are Dying

Is this the right way?

The group of girls was also quoted saying “ we wear because we have the body to flaunt and you don’t “. They also body shamed her. They did it in her way and also took it to social media. We know, everyone is angry at the statement that older woman said. But, do we have the right to make anybody’s life hell? Everyone knows that here in India how things heats up so easily and gets worse. She can go into depression. And, can also take any wrong step. What if her children kill themselves? Her face was clearly visible in the video. It’s going to be so tough for her and her family to step out of the house. If you want to raise some point, just do it. But, not pointing out that person.

Honest Opinion:

Sarvjeet Singh life
Jasleen Kaur molestation case? There have been times when videos went viral for abusing women. Remember Jasleen Kaur case? Accused Sarvjeet Singh life was ruined by the video and later the complaint was found false! His life was ruined!

The women’s face should not have been revealed. Don’t you think we should wait for her side of the story as well? What happened before the video? Also, it’s the court that decided who is wrong or right?

9 Month Pregnant Women Cleared UPSC Exam. An Inspiration for All UPSC aspirants

We aren’t in support of that woman, whatever she did was totally unforgettable. But, sending rape threats can’t change her mind. She will say sorry due to the pressure anyway. At least, make her realize and understand in a proper way. If we do it, the way she did. Then, what’s the difference between her and us?

Soma was wrong with whatever she said completely. And, we feel sorry that these type of people still exist in our community and how they are just polluting it. Blaming girls won’t help in stopping the rapes.

Teach everyone, what is right. And, don’t come up to girls always and start accusing her of her dress. Instead, teach your boys and improve your mentality!

Getting rape threats for this is very wrong . I agree. But in the whole vedio clip , she didn’t appologised once. She kept telling to go ahead and make her life hell . If she is not worried about her life why would I be ? Unless it’s proved that she is a psycho . If she would appologised this girl might not posted it. U never know … She was very arrogant in the video . I am not sorry for her at all .

I think the girls did the right thing by making her face viral. No one is judging but people are believing what they heard in the video. If she had the guts to say all this, then she should also have the guts to face the consequences. Being a woman she should be ashamed of herself. But instead she was behaving the opposite. Why has she asked people’s opinion through a poll? I mean what a sick person she must be. Her family too needs to make her understand what she did. Apology should not come true pressure but genuinely she should feel and apologise. She has chosen to be defamed as if she would apologise the girls would not make her viral. Now she has to face people’s eyes. No other option she chose for herself. Good she does not have a daughter as she would treat her own in the same manner

Completely right.. Those girls don’t have the right to take her video and publish it.Make her realize about her mistake in a proper way.And why are these girls still hung upon saying sorry..even if she did it wouldn’t be wholehearted. These girls should let go of their ego first

How often a girl gets rape threat by a lady in a public place for wearing something ( which is well within her rights) …. What right did that woman have to poke her bloody nose in their matter?
She could have been a hero if she had raised her voice had there been a person misbehaving with these girls at that point….
Sadly then this women may not have uttered a single word and shrugged off her so called social responsibility by saying ” none of my business”…. She was pretty sure that she would get away with her this stunt of slut shaming…. What is girls did was absolutely right…. Good they did not take it lying down…..

I cannot believe how you can sympathize with this female. If she goes into depression that is the best state she should be in. There was no public apologies by this woman so I am not sure why she should not be bashed on social media. She stood by what she said without apologizing at single point in time , so she exactly knew what she is getting into, so I don’t have any sympathy for her. If her family is getting threats then this her doing and she should accept it publicly by apologizing and accepting her views are wrong and she was wrong , till the time this happens …she will face the music . I don’t know this lady and unfortunately she is a Bengali and shame in the name of all Bengalis . However the video and audacity with which she stood by what she said , sorry no sympathy for her !

We can’t paint all Bengalis under the same brush. I know a lot of fools in India will do that, and this forms part of racism. There are good and bad people in every region. So, don’t feel bad 🙂

Soma chakrabarty deserved this. When coming to her family, she should have thought about it before she said those horrible words to the girls, or she should have said sorry because shivani clearly askd her to apologize, if she would have apologized then maybe they wouldn’t post this video. We can’t show pity for these kind of women. She knew she was on a video, she came in front of it and literally said those words!! How are they or how are all the girls are supposed to think about her family? And there is no other side of the story. She clearly stated everything she feel in that video. Soma chakrabarty deserves this. About her kids, I’m sorry , they didn’t deserve this.

The Jasleen Kaur case was an accusation. This has been accepted and repeated on tape. She’s apologized now, so yeah, she should be left alone.

She had no business of going and giving her comments on what Shivani was wearing. Then telling men that they should rape her was purely obnoxious to say the least.
If this video wasn’t uploaded she would have gotten away with this. So she is getting what she deserves.

I was just wandering who could have written such a shit and then I discovered you Mr. Gaurav, the guy of small thinking. It’s not the question of fake cases, its the question about raising question on a women’s integrity. People like you are making the society complicated and complex for girls. You like wandering out in shorts when it is 45 degrees, but you make sure than a woman is completely covered from head to toe. I would suggest why don’t you go to Himalayas and mediate, may be your soul and mind will get enlightened and you get to see the real world and realize than women are also humans and they do have feelings. They don’t give shit to such petty thoughts…

Hi Mr. Blogger of this ‘godofsmallthing’ better to say ‘godofsmallthinking’

Your blog “Dont be too quick to Judge Soma Chakrabarty.” is such a cheap blog that represent the smallthinking in your small brain. No one should judge Soma!!!! but she is the judge of the society. Everyone should ask her what to wear and of how much length. Right? That chudail has a family but the girls she commented on have no family. It is the girls who showed their courage to bring this matter to the limelight. Just imagine yourself being commented in the same manner and the lady asking the transgenders to rape you when you wear tight shorts while you go for Sunday marketing. Your blog represents that either you are the husband or the son or the boyfriend of that lady.

Good article, wrong title. “Help Soma Chakrabarty, Don’t kill her”, something like that would have been more appropriate. I’ve seen comments like she deserves it but that’s because there’s nothing at stake here. What if Soma was your mother, sister or daughter? Lets accept many of that generation has grown up amongst conservatism and Victorian values that’s considered regressive today. But they grew up knowing that this is what is appropriate. We have to make them learn, unlearn, relearn but none of that would be possible if she goes into depression or does something even more drastic. The trauma that she’s going through wouldn’t help her learn, it would make her regret for speaking her mind. And would make many of her generation sorry for thinking differently.
I am sympathetic to this woman despite being a father of a daughter, husband, son, brother. Because my father and mother also thinks probably similarly. My father hasn’t abused anyone but I’m sure he too appreciates dressing conservatively. So do many of your moms and dads too. They should all die or shut up. If they don’t speak their mind we will not know how much regressive we still are as a society. We will not able to help them out of that state.
But are we there ourselves. She did the most horrible thing by asking them to get raped. She doesn’t understand what being raped means or what it means to be the parent of a raped child. If she did she would never make that statement. But how do teach her. By threatening of raping her to explain the agony? Would that be different than what she did? Or by cursing her to die and perish and go to depression? Are we sure in such a regressive state she would be able to think progressively? She doesn’t have a body to flaunt, how progressive was that? How do we not know she too is making choice not to flaunt? How wrong would it be to say that coming the so-called progressive ambassadors its even more regressive. Maybe more regressive than what she did. Soma did an extreme mistake and she never realised till the end. Others realised that from the beginning but ignored their own sins to highlight her mistakes.
Thanks for sharing the video Shivani. I see an aged woman there who is sick and needs help. Many of you see a bunch of filth only because you are more progressive. Or because your parents are fast learner’s. My parents or Soma is not so lucky. If you still feel they should die if they fail to learn our way, help them with that atleast.

when You make a comment on raping a woman you should be bold enough to deal with the consequences. I disagree that the face should have been blurred when she was asking those 7 guys to rape this girl in a restaurant infront of others, Shivani’s image was also getting ruined. So It’s a BIG NO! I don’t even want to listen to her part of story because she has no right to tell someone to not wear short clothes. It is a women’s choice. Answer my question- if you wear short clothes in USA, is the woman raped? NO SHE IS NOT, because they have educated their sons and brothers. So instead of telling what a woman or girl should wear, change your cheapest pathetic mentality and educate the males to look at a girl with respect. If you can’t support another woman, it’s a big shame. Because of woman like her, rapists are created, lives are destroyed, minds are disturbed.
THE WOMAN like her is a shame to INDIA, TO THE COMMUNITY OF WOMEN! Please broaden your conservative mind and if you can’t than don’t go around giving your advise Rather give it to your daughter.

What she got was very well deserved. I don’t sympathise with her even one bit. For all the people arguing that what if she was your aunt/mother/relative; having primitive mindset is one thing, even giving unwanted opinions is one thing but she asked men to rape them. That is where it crosses the line. For everyone who is attacking the girls for uploading her video, they should understand that you cannot get away with everything. If you say such bizzare things, they will have consequences. She didn’t apologise, and even dared them to put the video online. She got what she deserves, and I’m not sympathetic towards her even one bit. I only do feel somewhat remorse for her family members, that too iff they do not share the same disgusting mentality as her. People like her should be named, shamed and shamed till she learns a lesson. It’s impossible to change her mindset but at least she’ll stop shoving her unwanted and disgusting opinions down someone else’s throat.
