“A finite world can support only a finite population and therefore population growth must be eventually equal to zero”. Garrett Hardin a famous ecologist quoted. But population growth is straining the Earth’s resources to the breaking point regularly which has no end.
India and its evergrowing Population:
India is one of the top contributors to the world’s total population. It ranks 2nd in the list of most populated countries. India has a very less closure to reach the top which China holds till date.
The revised reports of the UN claim China to lead the table with a total population of 1.41 billion people. The UN report for India is not so different from China, even India has a maximum number of inhabitants. In 2017 India holds a strength of 1.34 billion people which is almost 18% of the world’s total population. India is not far behind China in terms of population and will surpass China in the year 2024.
In roughly five years i.e. 2024 the population of India will surpass that of China which an issue of concern. This is not the end the tail goes on, the UN has projected that India’s population will continue growing for several decades. India will reach a mark of 1.5 billion people in 2030 and 1.66 billion in 2050.
What is China doing to control its increasing population?
China has taken several measures to control the increasing population and has even got success steadily. UN reported that till 2030 China will have a stable population and slowly there will be a decline in its population. Now it’s high time for India to look into this serious matter of concern and take some steps to fence the growth of population.
World Population day is observed and celebrated every year on 11th July but no steady measures are being put into action to control the population. The regular increase in population has led the country to a dead-end which has given birth to a number of problems like depletion of natural resources, environmental damage, unemployment, poverty, the high cost of living and more. The increase of population results in a number of unending problems for the country.
Major Causes behind increasing population in India:
The decline in death rate is a major root factor for the extra increase of Indian population. The major difference between birth rate and death is a strong reason for India to surpass China in terms of population. The birth rate in India is estimated at around 19.3% whereas the death rate falls down to 7.3%.
More hands to overcome poverty is the biggest reason for the growth of the population. Families which come below the poverty line need more family members to earn and feed the family which gives rise to the country’s population.
