Just In: India joins US, Russia, China, in Elite Space Club

As soon as an Instagram story appeared on our mobile screens, stating PM Modi to make an urgent announcement, we turned on our television screens in the fear of another revolutionary step like demonetization. Like last time, when our honorable Prime Minister made an announcement, he demonetized the currency notes. But, thankfully, today was much of a surprise than a shock!

Today is indeed a day to remember in the history of Indian Aeronautics. The country has achieved a remarkable height in space technology and has proved it’s mettle in space.

India tests its first anti-satellite missile system; Mission Shakti successful

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today, made an announcement that India’s anti-satellite missile system has taken a successful test against a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite, which has been codenamed ‘Mission Shakti’.

Within a time span of just 3 minutes, India destroyed a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite, 300 km away through an Anti-Satellite Missile; it needed very precise expertise of technology, said PM Narendra Modi in his address to the nation.

With this, India has entered an exclusive club of nations which include US, Russia and China.

A Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is an earth-centered orbit with an altitude of 2,000 km or less (approximately one-third of the radius of Earth), or with at least 11.25 periods per day (an orbital period of 128 minutes or less) and an eccentricity less than 0.25.

According to PM Modi, Mission Shakti was not an easy mission and has been completed with the hard work and expertise of our Indian scientists.

The PM assured the world community that this new prowess is not against anyone and has been developed only to enhance India’s security amongst crisis situation.

A-SAT missile will give new strength to India’s space program,” Modi said while assuring the international community that it won’t be used against anyone and is purely India’s defense initiative for its security. “We’re against arms raised in space. This test won’t breach any international law or treaties,” he added.

The announcement was made at 12.15 pm today, half an hour later of the tweet done by the Prime Minister.
