Kapil Dev, a legendary all-rounder, has various records that are unlikely to be broken. Here are three:
1. Kapil Dev still has the top Test match captain score. He accomplished this milestone in 1983 after scoring 9-83 against the West Indies in Ahmedabad.
Dev did this after the West Indies were knocked out for 201. The visitors won by 138 runs after India were all out for 103 with 242 to win.
Kapil Dev is second in career hit-wicket wickets, while Graham McKenzie holds the record. The former has four such dismissals, while Dev has three. Dev, Ray Lindwall, Fred Truman, Vinoo Mankad, and Headley Verity have the record, but no current cricketer does.
3. Kapil Dev and retiring India wicketkeeper-batter Syed Kirmani achieved the second-highest ninth-wicket partnership in ODIs. They held the record until 2010 when Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga broke it for Sri Lanka against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Dev and Kirmani gained theirs when batting together against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup at Tunbridge Wells, where Dev hit an unbroken 175 and changed history. They scored 126 crucial runs.
