The Vatican is made aware of this incident after which they send Father Burke (played by Demian Bichir) and Irene. Taissa Farmiga plays Irene, a young nun who hasn’t taken her vows yet. Once they reach the centuries-old monastery, they have to explore and find out the origins of a Valak named demon. Bonnie Aarons reprises her role as The Conjuring 2’s nun.

You may think that Irene is Lorraine Warren, but it isn’t so. No familial connection is shown between them. The only reason these two characters look familiar is that the actors who portray them are sisters.

Gary Dauberman, who was the writer of The Nun, has also written IT and IT: Chapter Two. The Nun has a running time of 1 hour 36 minutes.

Annabelle: Creation (2017)

This movie is a prequel to Annabelle, and takes place in 1955, in Southern California, three years after The Nun. It follows the life of Samuel Mullins, played by Anthony LaPaglia, a dollmaker and his wife, played by Miranda Otto. They take in Sister Charlotte and six orphans after the local orphanage closes. Mullins have a room dedicated to their deceased daughter, and the orphans are specifically prohibited from entering that room. As it is a horror movie, Janice, a girl suffering from polio, somehow manages to go to the room. In the process, she releases a devil that was once contained.

There are many references to other movies of this franchise in Annabelle: Creation. For example, there is a photograph of Valak. See if you can spot the others!

You will also get a glimpse of Annabelle, stored in the artefact room of the Warrens.

The scriptwriters for this film were Carey and Chad Hayes. James Wan, the director, has also co-created the Insidious and Saw franchises. He has also produced many films of The Conjuring Universe. The Conjuring runs for 112 minutes.

The Conjuring grossed a total of $319.5 million worldwide; its production budget was only $20 million. It earned $137.4 million in North America alone. Annabelle Comes Home picks up just after Warrens take Annabelle from the nurses who claim the gifted doll is why they are experiencing paranormal activity. The film, then, takes us to the future, roughly a year after the incident in The Conjuring. The Warrens employ Mary Ellen to babysit their daughter, Judy. Every horror movie buff knows no babysitter can go an evening without an incident in a horror film! A number of spirits, including Annabelle, escape the artefact room in a single night. And the worst part is…the Warrens are not home!

Madison Iseman dons the role of Mary Ellen while McKenna Grace plays Judy. Gary Dauberman and James Wan co-wrote this Annabelle movie. The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 46 minutes.

Annabelle Comes Home earned more than $231 million worldwide in spite of receiving mixed reviews from critics. The movie doesn’t live up to the horror theme of its predecessors.

The Curse of La Llorona (2019)

The Curse of La Llorona takes place in 1977 and starts with Anna Garcia, played by Linda Cardellini. Anna is a widowed social worker who looks into a traumatised family. She deems that the mother, Patricia, is unfit to take care of her boys and recommends removing them from her care. After finding that boy dead on the same night, Anna realizes that Patricia was shielding them from a Mexican spirit hell-bent on vengeance. The same spirit is now after her kids, Chris, played by Roman Christou and Samantha, played by Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen.

You will see a priest in this movie who is also there in Annabelle. The film also talks about the Warrens briefly. Except for these two, there are no links between the Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring Universe. It feels more like a standalone movie.

Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis wrote this film. It runs for 1 hour and 34 minutes.

The Curse of La Llorona was negatively received by the critics, the main reason being it relied on jump scares to frighten the audience. Even then, it garnered $123 million, becoming a box office success. It is the lowest-grossing movie in The Conjuring Universe.

They start experiencing paranormal activities after Janet, Peggy’s daughter uses an Ouija board as a toy. The Warrens come to their aid. Madison Wolfe plays Janet and Frances O’Connor plays Peggy. The Conjuring 2 had Chad and Carey Hayes, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and Wan as its writers.

There are a lot of links between the Nun and the Conjuring 2, but that’s for you to watch and figure out!

The most recent Conjuring movie came out on 4^th June 2021. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reprise their roles as the Warrens couple and come to Arne Cheyenne Johnson’s aid. Set in 1981, Arne Cheyenne Johnson, played by claims he had been possessed by a demon. This forms the ground of innocence against the murder charges. Soon, Ed and Lorraine Warren realize that they have to deal with a new demonic threat. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick was the writer of this film.

The movie was also released on HBO Max for a month at the same time it was released in theatres. The critics gave mixed reviews, hailing the performance of Farmiga and Wilson. According to them, the screenplay did not live up to the standard of its previous instalments.
